Newburyport Brewing Company

Continue along I-95 North for an hour past Boston and you will reach Newburyport, MA. When you arrive, we highly recommend you check out Newburyport Brewing Company. They began brewing in early 2013 and our now producing 15,000 barrels-per-year. They were the first brewery in Massachusettes to can their entire line of beers. “Canned for Quality and Adventure”, their cans proudly proclaim. Founded by Chris Webb and Bill Fisher, the brewery aims to capture the essence of the towns quaint seaside character. We drank the Pale Ale, Belgian White, IPA and Session IPA. While all were great beers, the Green Head IPA stuck out and we will give it a full review.

First Impression: “The Beer That Bites You Back”, says the can. If you enjoy IPA’s, that line should excite you. On two different places on the can you will find a fly with a hop cone as it’s torso. Cool, I guess?

Pour: Dark tan and fairly cloudy from the can. Nice, sticky head that every good IPA should have. Smells of citrusy, piney hops.

Taste: Balance is the key with this beer. Hops dominate immediately, but give way to a floral and possibly minty aftertaste. This beer definitely packs a hoppy-punch, but won’t knock your teeth out.

ABV: 7.2%
