Holly Jolly Christmas

By: Katie Schroepfer

First Impressions: Golden City Brewery has brewed up one of my favorite seasonals so far this year, Holly Jolly Christmas. When I first received the beer, at their special pre-release tasting, I loved the color of it. It’s a dark brown brew, one of the darkest browns I’ve seen and had the pleasure of trying.

Taste: The Holly Jolly Christmas has the perfect amount of everything a good beer is made up of: great hops (very few that you can taste), a great amount of spices and not too malty of a taste. The spices are what sell me on this beer. They give this beer the best gingerbread taste that I’ve experienced in a beer. I’m a huge fan of gingerbread, gingerbread lattes, pop tarts, anything. Put gingerbread in front of the name and I’m buying it. The thing is, is Gold City didn’t even have to do that. They probably weren’t thinking “gingerbread” when they created it, but I’m sold on it. Give me a couple of growlers.

Grade: A+

The downfall of this beer is you can only get it if you go to the brewery in Golden, Colorado. I have to admit though, it’s a great place to go. The brewery itself is a good enough reason to visit Golden.
