Green Flash Brewing Company will be continuing it’s annual Hop Odyssey series in January. This year they will be going international, with hops from New Zealand and Slovenia. We got a chance to sample all three beers and we will be sharing our thoughts with you. The first beer in the series is the Pacific Gem Pale Ale, which will be available January – April 2016.

First Impression: After Green Flash re-branded earlier  this year, all of their labels are clean and simple. Anytime a beer is a “limited release” it adds to the excitement and we couldn’t wait to try it.

Pour: Poured from the 12 oz bottle into a beer glass. Classic Pale Ale color with a semi-sticky head that lasted throughout the tasting. The aroma filled the room right as the beer was leaving the bottle…

Aroma: Lots of pine and citrus aroma in the Pacific Gem. 100% of the hops in this beer are Pacific Gem and that is evident from the smell.

Taste: For a Pale Ale, the hop intensity is fairly strong. Balancing out the grapefruit-hop flavor is a strong malt presence. Brewed with an English malt base of Golden Promise, 2-Row malted barley and Caramalt, the Pacific Gem Pale Ale starts and finishes with the hoppy flavor but is all malt in between.
