Boulder Beer Shake Chocolate Porter
By: Katie Schroepfer
Colorado’s first ever craft brewery has been an inspiration for current and future breweries. Boulder Beer has a strong list of year-round beers that you can find in many parts of the U.S., and they continue to brew up some impressive beers. Although you won’t find me drinking Mojo, Hazed and Infused or Sweaty Betty you can bet that I’m going to pick up or order a Shake when I’m in the mood for a chocolatey porter.
First Impression: Boulder Beer…eh? After I had people from the East Coast to the Midwest telling me that Shake was so delicious I decided I had to try it. The label is a typical Boulder Beer label, pretty entertaining with the bright colors and it stands out from a lot of other porters
Pour: Once poured it wasn’t very heady. Not very exciting, to be quite honest. However, you can smell the chocolate. Bam!
Taste: Please give me a piece of chocolate to go with this chocolate syrup. Okay, it’s not that thick but it sure is delicious and it tastes just like chocolate. It’s a porter so I didn’t expect much flavor but this is really packed full of chocolate, coffee and caramel. You can taste the chocolate wheat and all five of the different grains!
Overall, this beer is really, really good. I’m impressed. I don’t know if I’ll be buying any more this season but that’s only because there are way too many other porters that I need to try!
